What You Need To Know About Mole Removal   by Darellbelen

You may have a mole somewhere on your body that is making you uncomfortable or just looks unsightly. This may be something that you have had all your life and you have decided that having it taken off is what you want to do. Mole removal should only be done by a professional who has had plenty of experience in this area. It can be a simple skin irregularity or something much more serious, and removal should never be attempted at home.

There are times when the composition of the mole can be something much more serious. A Dermatologist can examine it and offer you advice as to what you should do. A visit to your doctor will probably be recommended, and he or she can do further testing or examination and let you know whether you should see a surgeon to have it removed.

There are different ways to get rid of an unsightly mole, and a consultation with a dermatologist will give you the best solution for your particular situation. Surgery is the preferred method of treatment, and there are two different methods normally used. The surgeon is going to recommend either “shave excision” or removal that involves stitching afterward. He or she will know what is best for the type of growth you have.

Moles that your doctor deem “suspicious” should always be removed in the operating room by a surgeon skilled in this area. Normally, the area is frozen or numbed and one of two procedures will take place. Either it will be removed flush with the skin if it is not very deep, or the surgeon will have to go a bit deeper to get all the growth. If this is the case, you will need stitches to close the area. If it is not too deep, a simple bandage will do. The wound will not bleed much because it will have been cauterized to prevent this.

It can also cut out, meaning that stitches will be used to close the wound. This method is preferable when the mole is extremely flat to the surface of the skin. This type of surgery generally takes about one hour to complete, and you will be made aware of the fact that there may be slight scarring after healing. Plastic surgery can be performed to reduce the amount of scarring if it bothers you.

Sometimes growths are not really moles at all. They may be just small skin tags or irregularities. Your doctor will know upon examination. If you spend a lot of time in the sun however, have all abnormal appearing growths checked as soon as they appear. Don’t take chances by ignoring them. Skin cancer is caused by spending time in the sun, even if you only do it occasionally.

If you notice that you have something anywhere on your body that wasn’t there before, make an appointment with a dermatologist to have it checked. If you experience bleeding of a mole and it doesn’t heal on its own, make an appointment to have it examined soon. It may be nothing to be concerned about, but better to be safe than sorry.

No matter what the mole looks like, or how long you have had it, always make sure you take note of any changes that may occur in appearance. This may include color, shape, texture or size. If it bleeds or refuses to heal on its own, it is time to see the doctor for a professional opinion. Skin irregularities can lead to serious results if not take care of.
